William Shakespeare’s beloved tale of star-crossed lovers, their hot-headed friends, and the adults who lead them astray returns to the SPT Youth Program. Six [free] performances March 1, 2, 3, 8 & 9 at the historic Bathhouse Theater on Green Lake. Donations are encouraged, and go to support SPT’s Youth Scholarship Fund.

    ABOUT ROMEO AND JULIET
The Houses of Montague and Capulet have long been embroiled in a bitter conflict until fate drives two innocents from either faction into one another’s arms. Forced to keep their love hidden from their warring families, Romeo and Juliet marry in secret and pray their love will cool the familial conflict. But time moves too fast for the teens, and their parents and mentors lay plans too big to succeed. "Our ensemble has had some awesome conversations about what makes a tragedy,” says director Shana Bestock. “The shootings at Sandy Hook have given us all new insight into the definition of tragedy as young life cut short. This youth ensemble is passionately engaged with questions of responsibility and culpability, as well as giddy over the possibilities of love and romance. We’ve discovered this play isn't a play full of sadness, but of vitality and impetuousness misplaced.”

    ABOUT SPT’S YOUTH PROGRAM
“For me, the fact that these young people are actually putting on productions, rather than just playing games or engaging in imaginary play, makes the experience incredibly meaningful.” –SPT Parent Come see why Seattle Public Theater’s Youth Program is so often praised for its ability to transcend traditional expectations of "Children’s Theater" with exciting theatrical experiences for the whole community. SPT has done it again. Amazing youth shows, and this is certainly one you can't miss.
