  Very interesting play. Action switches between the present, where a playwright is thinking of writing a play about a 10000 year clock, and some far distant future where people seek this mythical clock. (There is a real world group that apparently plans to build the clock, or at least a myth around it. The temptation of calling it Ozymandial is too great for me.) The action set in the far future has more strands and indulges a bit in telling rather than showing. But there's also some great stuff here; the various ambiguities around Time and what it means to us allows all sorts of interesting writing and wordplay and Paul Mullin exploits this well. His Louis Slotin Sonata was a real gem: a rare play that portrays scientists three dimensionally. The 10000 Things doesn't match it, but is worth seeing. Time as a subject is a lot to bite off. And some of the devices here seem a little gimmicky: shifting back and forward between the two epochs, the play within a play, changing a word at random per performance. But the acting is excellent. The scenes between Om (Joseph P. McCarthy) and Yew (Elise Hunt) are beautifully done. And the production is striking. It's hard to watch an arrow and a bent bow 12 inches from an actor's face and not feel the stakes. There are a few too many monologs on Time. The play is at its best with the interactions between Producer Gavin Cummins (Sweetest Swing) and Playwright (Marya Sea Kaminski). Collapse
