The Broadway Center for the Performing Arts, located in the heart of downtown Tacoma, is the largest performing arts complex between Seattle and Portland. The organization was founded in 1979 as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. On behalf of the City of Tacoma, we are stewards of the historic Pantages and Rialto Theaters, Theatre on the Square, and are responsible for managing the Jones Building which houses offices of three Resident Arts Organizations (RAOS) and Broadway Center’s administrative offices. The Broadway Center also manages and maintains the annex which contains three studios varying in size and function. Broadway Center continues to serve eight Tacoma Resident Arts Organizations through professional maintenance of the venues and by collaboratively marketing and promoting their performances.

The performances presented on the stages of the Broadway Center include nationally recognized and local-performing artists both for the Performance Season, Tacoma’s Resident Arts Organizations and many Education Programs. The Broadway Center, Resident Arts Organizations and other presenters serve over 250,000 people. Patrons are drawn from Greater Pierce, South King, King, Thurston and Kitsap Counties.

The Broadway Center operates one of the largest and most innovative arts education programs in Washington State. Each year, it serves more than 26,000 students and teachers in nearly every school district over a four-county region the size of the state of Delaware.

    * Many students are introduced to the arts for the first time at up to 20 school-time matinee performances annually. Shows include popular and classic children’s literature, dance, and culturally diverse offerings.
    * The Broadway Center Conservatory provides year-round workshops and classes for students of all ages in education studios downtown and at satellite locations throughout Pierce County.
    * The Broadway Center is the only Kennedy Center Partner in Washington State. The Broadway Center offers professional development programs for teachers through Dance, Theater, and Spoken Word intensives.
